In grade five I lucked out. I had a teacher that recognized my budding interest in art.
Mrs. McCormick recommended me for a two day in school enrichment program in paper cut-out animation. This had a profound effect on me, and after my dad pointed out he had everything I need to do this at home, I was hooked. If I were to trace my artistic journey back to my first step, this could very well be it. Knowing how I benefit from such programs, I am passionate about doing what I can, in hopes that I can return my good fortune.
When my schedule allows me. I enjoy doing workshops and have done so for a number of years. First with the Scarborough Board of Education in the "Saturday Morning Art Classes" (9 years) and "Art in the Country" visual arts camp (12 years) I loved those programs. They were not only the first to give me a chance to teach, it was where I discovered my passion for teaching art. Since then I have taught, privately and in groups of all ages as well as volunteered for church groups, youth centres and events.
